Introduction:
QUINT CUTOFF:
Route: On Crescent Heights from Sunset to Santa Monica Boulevards., 0.55 miles, single track. Here we have a somewhat mysterious line; it was built by Sherman & Clark in 1900 to enable steam trains to reach a quarry west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. on Sunset Boulevard. without having to traverse passenger rail lines. Each end of this line had wyes to permit turning the steam engines—the wyes being perpetuated today in Crescent Heights Boulevard. No records exist in PE files as to date of abandonment; it may well be that this line was abandoned prior to 1911.
