Pasadena Southern Pacific Depot

Introduction:
W PASADENA SOUTHERN PACIFIC DEPOT On March 15, 1912, PE and SP entered into an agreement whereby PE would electrify the Pasadena depot trackage of SP from the depot (including spur tracks) at Broadway(Arroyo Seco Parkway) & Colorado south on Broadway to Evanston Place(Bellevue), a distance of 2,468 feet plus 588.6 feet of spurs and sidings. Connection with the Pasadena Short Line was made at Bellevue & Raymond. As rental, PE paid SP: (a) 1/12 of 2.5% per annum on total cost of the line; (b) one half of all taxes on non-operating property; (c) 1/12 of 2.5% per annum on all additions & betterments made by SP; (d) proportion of expense in repairing, renewing and operating said line; (e) proportion of expenses for salaries incident to joint operation. The right to use this single track on Broadway was in common with SP trains for the term of one year and thereafter until cancelled by six months' notice by either company. On May 1, 1912, PE discontinued operating steam passenger trains into and out of Pasadena. On the same date, PE began operating hourly service between the Pasadena Depot of SP and Los Angeles, plus special cars connecting with all main line trains at Shorb(Alhambra) Station of SP. Freight operation to and from Pasadena was kept by SP. The new PE service was in addition to its regular service to Los Angeles.
