QUINT CUTOFF:
Route: On Crescent Heights from Sunset to Santa Monica Boulevards., 0.55 miles, single track. Here we have a somewhat mysterious line; it was built by Sherman & Clark in 1900 to enable steam trains to reach a quarry west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. on Sunset Boulevard. without having to traverse passenger rail lines. Each end of this line had wyes to permit turning the steam engines---the wyes being perpetuated today in Crescent Heights Boulevard. No records exist in PE files as to date of abandonment; it may well be that this line was abandoned prior to 1911.
