- Supplement One – 2nd Revision,
A
CHRONOLOGY OF CHANGES IN RAIL PASSENGER OPERATIONS OF THE PACIFIC ELECTRIC
RAILWAY COMPANY, INCLUDING THE YEARS 1911-61
Compiled
by Laurence R. Veysey
This
Internet edition of Laurence Veysey’s original work of 50 years ago is an
experiment to update this seminal work in traction archeology. We have posted to the Association website, http://www.erha.org/ the original January 1951
edition, the revised November 1952 edition and this November 2000 edition. We welcome interested parties to e-mail with
corrections, additions and insights to bring this 2nd revision
up-to-date beyond 1950 and perhaps to add additional information that has
surfaced in the half-a-century since this work was first published.
This
listing still does not pretend to be complete, but it does include all major
changes on most major lines; and it was felt better to respond to the demand
that the Chronology, for some time out of print, be reissued, rather than
await some distant opportunity to complete the research on those relatively few
dates that are not yet known. All
abandonments and other changes recorded herein are of rail passenger service. Continuance of tracks solely for freight use
and the existence of motor coach lines replacing rail passenger service are
both ignored. Post-mortem franchise
runs (a term we have loosely employed to refer to any once-a-day service) are
given where operated. Only present
names of towns are used.
